HUNAN EMBROIDERY RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Hunan Embroidery Research Institute, as a main producer and researcher of Hunan embroidery, has a 400 plus member staff, among whom, there are 4 national great masters and 50 masters in arts and crafts. The "Lion" and "Tiger" in Pengmao stitch which was originated by HERI are famous traditional products. Double-sided embroidery different in every point was created recently and praised as "super embroidery". Since 1949, HERI's embroiderers have produced a series of articles that are famed at home and abroad.

"Lions" and "Tiger", designed and embroidered by its great masters and embroiderers in 1982, won the gold cup in the Flowers Award of the Chinese National Arts and Crafts. Both of them were chosen as national treasure in 1985, "Landscape in the Dongting" 1983, a huge double-sided embroidery, was chosen as the state gift. "Yang Yuhuan, the Highest-ranking Imperial Concubine" 1981, a double sided embroidery different in every point, was collected by the Chinese History Museum, "Full Moon" l985, also a double-sided embroidery different in every point, was, as a state treasure, collected by the Chinese Arts and Crafts Gallery. And many others have been distributed around the world.

Since 1980s, many embroiderers have demonstrated their skill in scores of countries, such as the United States, Japan, the United kingdom, France, Germany. A international friend says "I can never imagine that one could create such a beautiful, magical art."

Not only embroidery articles at high and middle level, it also produces the articles with different patterns as collection, gift, souvenir and ornament.

HERI enjoys easy communications with few steps to the Changsha Railway Station, the Changsha Long-distance Bus Station and five minute drive to the Xihan Dynasty's Mawangdui Tomb.
